The one-page status report: RAG and what changed

A good status report is short, honest and built from facts. Sen builds the facts. You add the words.

These are the eight planning threads the Krong course is built around. The highlighted ones are covered here. What are the planning threads?

In one lineLet the numbers set the colours, and spend your words on what the numbers cannot say.

What belongs on one page

Where the colours come from

AreaRule in Sen
ScheduleSPI: green from 0.95, amber from 0.85, otherwise red
CostCPI on the same bands
RiskRed if any critical risk, amber if any high
IssuesRed if a critical issue is open, amber if a high one
Scope and changeAmber if requests wait or the finish has slipped from baseline

You can override the overall status with your own call. A colour is a judgement, and a planner may know something the numbers do not.

What changed since last week

Sen lists the changes recorded since a date you choose: durations, owners, predecessors, risk scores and decisions. This is the section sponsors read first, and the one that is hardest to write from memory.

Use Print preview to see it in a light theme, then save it as a PDF. Printing is part of the paid course access.

Questions people ask

Can I change the thresholds?

The bands are fixed in this version. You can override the overall status.

Where do the changes come from?

From the change log, which records edits with an optional reason.

Does it replace a status meeting?

No. It gives the meeting a shared set of facts.

GUIDE 18
Change control
Scope changes are normal. Unrecorded scope changes are the problem. A change request register gives each one a decision and a date.
GUIDE 14
Milestones and gates
A milestone marks a date that matters. A gate marks a decision. Both take no time, and both belong on the schedule.
